Alright alright. Really the last post for this blog. No More entries after this. =D

As we could not transfer the video into the DVD CD-ROM, Jen brought the video back home and tried to use her house computer to transfer the video to the CD. However, something is wrong either the CD or the video. She could not transfer the file. So we had to come back earlier to do transfer the video.

We tried to transfer with 2 different video cameras, 5 fire wires, burn it to a CD again. But it doesn't work!!! And time is running out!!! Luckily, the video camera Germaine's group is using works. So after their transfer and Yi Chuin's group transfer, we managed to get the video transfer into the tape and submit it few mins later after the deadline. Our lecturers also pushed back the deadline from 1200 to 1300. Thanks! If not we will be really late for submission.

So we had screening in the lecture hall after everyone have submitted the tapes. Before that, we have to do the peer assessment. It is a reflection of your group mates like what have they contributed during the entire production and give them a grade and for yourself.

All the videos were great. I can see that everyone puts in alot of effort for this video and they really work every hard. The videos that impressed me alot was Raj's group, Tri's group and Apple's group.

Raj's group video is like the Hollywood kind of video. I love the opening where it looks like Pirate Of The Caribbeans where they are going for a quest with huge obstacles in front of them. The animation really impressed me. They really work alot on the animation and even Mr Ronald was impressed with them.

As for Tri's group, Their video is a very easy going kind where u can relax and watch. Their Animation is fantastic. And their opening is funny and funky. Enjoyable video.

Lastly Apple's group. Though I watched a few parts before the whole video is join together, The whole video is very funny. I can't stop myself from laughing. Everyone in the lecture hall were laughing like mad and Alfie was laughing really loud.

Now we have completed the production package and we are left with our blog entries to submit tomorrow.

From this module, I learn that doing group work is not easy. Although this is not the first time doing group work, but it is different because this project takes up to 2 month to complete. Good communication system is extremely important. In any way having able to communicate properly will cause less trouble and waste of time. Having things plan beforehand is also very important. It is better to have a schedule in hand as we can follow and keep track to where we are. If not, we are confuse of what we have to do for the day and there waste time again and waste a day. Every day is very precious as you can do many things within a day. And also having enough rest the day before the production. If not everyone will be restless and can't concentrate on anything. That's really bad. Lastly, self motivation. Everyone will get excited when we are started the production. but slowly, thing will fall apart and everyone is not in the mood and things are beginning to progress very slow. I believe that self motivation and encouragement from friends will be a really great help to push yourself to move further and to a great height.

Alright, Lastly, to all my group member and friend and lecturers and to the food and equipment and everything. Thank you for being with me through this 2 months. Thank you for your help and guidance. Thank you the uncle for not putting my name in the blacklist for not returning the video camera and tripod on time.

Last entry for P1. Cool. YES! WE HAVE COMPLETED OUR VIDEO!!!! HURRAY! Although we are the last to finished the video in the class, but we are really happy. We are happy with the video and the audio.

Today we meet up at 1100. I started doing the storyboard and Gina and the rest continue doing the video. Then later, Kala also helped me with the storyboard. We started to edit the clip as I had download the Adobe Audition into my laptop and importing it into the video. We also add in subtitles and colour correction as some parts of the video looks too dark or too blueish. I think that is because of the bad lighting.

Time passed really fast. It was already 6 plus. And we are still not done. We then began to start touching up. We had a problem while trying to rewind the whole video. Seems like we can't select the whole video to be rewind. So I ask Alvin for help and there, the problem is solved. He is really good at this! But... while we were rendering, something happen again. The video can't be rendered after 1.59mins. We don't know what had happen and we started to panic. Luckily Peng was in the lab and we asked him to help us. Looks like there is something wrong with the video. After searching and looking through, we realised it is the pictures that is causing the problem. So we decided to remove the pictures there, the rendering came out smoothly. We added the last audio in and some simple adjustment and HOHO! The video is done!!! We were jumping for joy!!! Finally after much sweat and whatever, we are done with our work! Adeline is also done with the production package!!! So we are left with the blog entries and we are done with everything. =D

So tomorrow there will be a screening of our works in the lecture Hall at 1200. After this, we will be free from works, projects and daily blog entry! HOLIDAY!!!! I'M COMING!

And today in 3D lab, I passed the complete and exported video to Gina and combine everything together. And now Gina is combining everything together. And now we have a very big problem. Jen’s Mac can’t detect the hard disk. So she had to Blue tooth the whole file to Adeline’s MAC. So we have to wait again. But it's too too slow. So we have to borrow the external hard disk from Apple's group. And cause them not able to do their work for a few hours as the transfer took a really really long time. And the hard disk can't be formatted because it doesn't have don't know what format. and so it can't be readable to a MAC lap top. Till 7.30pm we then finished transferring the videos. We are still editing the last footage at this time. We have finalised with our audio and Gina is going to remove the singing part and do some editing with the audio.Submission date is coming. Still left alot alot to do. Storyboard, video, the package. AHH!!!And so, That's all for the day.

Today is Sunday and we are meeting to do our work. We went to Gina’s house to do our work. I won’t say that it is a really productive day. But at least we managed to select the audio that we are going to use in the video. Actually we thought we can at least join up the first part of the video. But then I don’t know why some of the words are jumbled up and I had to re-arrange parts of the video. The rest continue with their work. We had alot of transferring here and there. Making copies of backup just in case any of the clips died on us. You will never know when it will happen. We ordered KFC for lunch, we camwhore, played guitar, talking etcetc...So that’s all for the day and tomorrow by 5PM!

Today we continue working. Kala passed me the video for the introduction to change the fonts and she left. Then Jen started working on the slides that we are showing before presenting the interviews. So we actually start preparing the documents we need to submit next week. Jen and I worked on the credits. Its a very simple . Just words and simple colour in it. And everyone likes it. Hurray!!!So we spend the whole day editing and editing our work and try to piece everything together hopefully by next Monday. And i guess we are meeting up on Sunday to continue with our work. Adeline is going to typed out our new ideas and all in the package we are supposed to submit. Jen is going to continue working on the after effects. I am going to finish editing the animated words which kala passed to me. Gina is going to animate the words for the parts that introduces the different modules. Everyoneis going to update our blogs. We gave ourseleves a dateline to complete all the blog entries by next tueday.Ya and so that's all.

Today we continue editing. All the pictures we took have been edited in Photoshop, and so we passed all the edited pictures to jen so that she can put them together the way we want it in after effects. But then she does not have the software and we can't download anything using the school's internet. So she had to go back home and download the software to arrange the pictures together. We are still picking out videos and editing.. Still got alot left to do. hopefully we can finish the work on time.

Today we had our presentation. We showed Alfie our works we had done till now. Like our animation and videos for the introduction. We were supposed to hand in our script and storyboard to Alfie but we forget all about it. Alfie commented that we should add more colours to the stick man as it looks too dull and boring with just black and white. To make it look livelier as currently, only the light bulb is the most interesting object in the whole animation. Alfie also told us what is needed for submission and the due dates to submit the work. He told us that we have to complete the whole video by next Monday 5pm and we have to transfer the whole video to tape on Tuesday. But then I doubt that we can finish everything by next Monday with our progress speed right now. Then I also heard from my classmate that we cannot use screen caption for our storyboard. WHY!!! I think with screen capture it will look 100% better than hand drawn. But I guess Alfie prefers hand drawn work. So we have extra works to do now.

After the presentation, we went back to 3D lab and continue editing and continue with the rest of the work. Currently, we are left with audio selection, editing some parts of the video, final storyboards, drafts of the ideas etc. Hopefully we can finish everything on time and not waste any more time on waiting and waiting for people which we are doing everyday without fail.

Today we upload the last tape into the computer. We also prepare for the presentation on Wednesday. We decided to re-do the storyboard which looks crumpled and messy. We also re-do the schedule and re-organise it according to what we have been doing the previous weeks. As for the animation, we are finishing it by Wednesday and show it to Alfie during the presentation. And as for what we are going to present on Wednesday, we have to wait for Alfie's e-mail. Ha ha.

We are taking a break tomorrow!!! HURRAY!!!

Till now we have not receive the script. So we decided not to wait any longer as we are rushing for time. We will continue filming without the edited script. We went to the classroom and start preparing for the filming later.

So Gina goes first. Yeah and we had her condenser microphone in which we will have a better audio. Yeah!!! Then Jen's turn and finally Adeline. Gina and Kala went off first as they had something on.

And YES! we have finished with all our filming. Next week we will be working on editing and joining all the clips together...

It is fun filming your friend. They were so nervous and stutter. Although there were many NGs. But the outcome is great! Don't be sorry if you have taken many takes! It's the first time we are doing this and I believe practice will make perfect. =) let's enjoy!!!

I realise that we can't rely on our lecturer even thought they wanted to help us. Now we are not in secondary school whereby if we need help from any teachers, they will help us immediately without a second word. However things are not the same in poly, It is time for us to learn to be independent and not relying others and no more spoon feeding. Oh well.

Today again we don't have our script with us. So what we had to do was editing and continue with the animation. We are still waiting for the script and we do not have much time left. Gina and rest went to take pics of our 2D works from the two lecturers. We are left with the content and i suppose we are done for filming. What we are left to do is the animation and editing etc... hopefully we can finish filming by tomorrow.

Today we thought of filming our content. But then Alfie is still not ready with our script. So we uploaded the rest of the video into the computer and do some editing. Ya and the 3D lab is occupied again and 2D lab is crowded with people. But then we managed to get a computer in the Mac Lab. however the macs does not have premier software. So we went to get the software from Raj and installed in my laptop. But, the fire wire could not be connected to the laptop. So we did nothing much and wasted a day.

So that's for the day!

today we went met @ 1100 and continue with our filming. As Alfie only edit Kala's part, we decided to start with hers first. And Gina brought her huge microphone and we use it to record the audio.

While filming, we had many difficulties as we realise the classroom computer did not have Audacity. So we had to find other source to record the audio into the computer. After all the things were settled, we started the filming. Gina helped us alot as she is familiar with all the audio software etc. Thanks GINA!!!!

We took many NGs takes as Kala was nervous. After a few tries we had the best shot and we decide to proceed to editing. However, the computers do not have Adobe Premier and the 2D & 3D labs were being occupied. So we decided to end the day here and continue tomorrow.

So now we are still waiting for Alfie to send us back the edited scripts...

Yeah today we meet up again at 1030. But then we had to wait for the rest as they are late so... yeah now while waiting, Gina passed the animation to me for and blogging to finish up the previous entries.

At 1330 we decided to move on and not continue wasting time. We went to the classroom and wanted to look for Alfie regarding the scripts. And there we found him there and looks like he only manged to finish Kala's part. But Kala is not ready for the shooting. So we stayed in the class talking to Alfie about lots of stuff. After that we decided to start working.

We film the animation process of Kala working. Later we went up to the studio and film Jen working on the 1m X 1m board. We decided to end everything today.

Today we started working. As Alfie had not finish viewing out script, we decided to do other stuff today. First we upload the videos again to wait for the rest to come. Jen and I started working with the credits and all. After that, we went to have our lunch first before we start shooting.

We walk to the Bedok reservoir for our shooting. This time we are shooting the process of Photography, like the field trip we had during class. Gina was pretending to take some pictures while we film her. Meanwhile, the rest of us were enjoying the scenery and the cool breeze at the reservoir. After all the filming, it was still early. So we proceed to the 3D lab to film the clay working. I am the one who is doing the clay. We had to try a few times before we actually had a good take. We also used quick motion as one of our style. But the outcome of the clay looks horrible. That's how I feel. After that we ended everything and that's all for today.

Today we met at 1030 and started working. While waiting for the rest to come, we decided to upload some videos we have taken the past few days to the computer and did some editing. It takes a looooong time to upload. In order not to waste time, we started on the animation and our script. We finalised it all and send it to Alfie for checking.

At 12 we went to the classroom and met Alfie for interview. The interview was great although we had a few NGs. yeah. We also had Alvin Soe to help us. He helped us with the v.camera on the focusing and the lighting in the class and the lighting angle. Then we also started on our modules opening. And we had Alvin's help again. Thank you.

After that we went to had our lunch... so that's all to today

today we met at 1030 again. Yup. so Gina, Jen and I went to collect our foams and slice them up to smaller pieces in the workshop and wrapped them with mahjong paper as our 'books' that we will be using.

After that we went to the classroom and start shooting. However we realise that we had some problems so we decided to postpone the shooting tomorrow. we did not really do much things today. ya so we will continue everything tomorrow. bye bye...

Today we meet at 1030 and start to prepare for the shooting later. We did the opening filming. We spend around 2 hrs near the design entrance. It started around 12+ and we had missed the crowd.

Then while we were setting up, we realise that the v.camera is low battery. I was the one who brought the v.camera home yesterday. I totally forgot that i have to charged the v.camera. I'm so sorry! Kala had to borrow a v.camera from her friend to use for today.

While we were filming, we attracted alot of people's attention and at one point they were crowding around us. This is so embarrassing. haha. Yeah and we had Germaine to help us while we were all in camera. Thank you!

After all the filming, we settle with the props that we need for tomorrow shooting.

Hello all. It's the first day of block 2 for P1. So we left less than 2 weeks for our production and 1 week for editing and stuff... So it's like rushing and rushing for the next 3 weeks.

So today is the 1st day of the production blocks! We met at 12 plus and Gina showed us the flip book that she did over the weekends and it was marvellous. GOOD WORK GINA! We made some improvements to the flip book, rented the video camera and tripod. We proceeded to film the flip book in the classroom...

We took quite a number of takes as we did not quite agree to the shooting position. After some trying and discussion, we managed to get what we wanted. Next we start on the flipping book. It was hard to keep the flipping at a constant speed... we had quite a no. of NGs... haha. It was a really good experience and we had alot of FUN!

Tomorrow, we're going to finish filming our opening! YEAH. And select the works we are show in the video as we did not do it today.

We did not meet up because today is the submission for design, history & culture. Everyone is rushing to finish up their work. So we shall start working from next Monday!!! bye bye...

Today's the interim assessment. very informal presentation. we were marked on the content. We did a very brief presentation what we have done till date and our schedule and storyboard. We only had our schedule planned for the next week. so i guess we won't be sending Alfie our schedule soon. Then after the presentation, we had a small discussion and settle with some stuff.. and yeah that's for the day.

Alfie said that there will be a movie screening tomorrow on a Hong Kong movie. Can't remember what is the title. Ya. But I'm not going for the screening. Ha ha. Yeah. And that's the end of 1 block.. Whoa.. that's really fast. Bye bye...

So today we went to the mac lab to do our script writing. actually we didn't really sort of write out the script but we know what we are going to have in the content. We took 1/2 modules each to talk about or demonstrate. After doing that, we went on to do some research on the graphics we are going to use in the video. We found a few interesting fonts and took note of it. then it's time so we ended our meeting. Gina and me went to the 2D lab and realise that the other groups have already done their opening and it was marvellous. they are really fast. Then me and Gina realise that we are really lagging behind. tomorrow we will be having some presentation. Sort of letting Alfie see what we have for now also to see if we are on the right track. We only have our storyboard to show Alfie. but its better than nothing.

Today we met at the tables at design entrance and did our storyboarding there! As Kala was not here yesterday, we shared our new idea with her and i think everyone is happy with it. We continue our storyboard and there we finished our storyboards already!! Ha ha... So tomorrow we are probably going to plan our schedule, do script writing, graphics as we do not have much time left. Ya so hope everything will be done before the next block. Bye bye...

kala didn't come today cause she's sick!!

anyway, we went to the mac lab to discuss more about the content. So we spent like 3 hrs dicussing about our content idea. We got so many ideas that we do not know how to connect them together. Yeah. at one point we were really lost and had no idea wad to do. So Jen told us to stop thinking of new ideas and develop on the ideas we had now. And there we have finalised our content. Hurray!!!! We also edit bits of our content... yeah. So thats all we did for today.

Today we went for class and Alfie talk about the previous yr works. So we did the opening storyboard. then later we proceed up to the mac lab. Actually we were to continue doing the storyboard. However seems like no one is in the mood to do and we have not confirm with our content arrangement. So we only did the opening storyboard. Hm today we only did a little. there's only left with 1 week before the production. I'm worried that we do not have enough time. we do no have any script and all our ideas are in our brain. we do not have any hard copy's of the stuff. Even our storyboard is not complete and schedule NOT DONE! It seems like nothing is really done and complete. hope that there will not be anymore major changes for our ideas and our script and storyboard can be done before the production date. BYE BYE!

So today we actually had filming. but due to some problem, we decided to end our filming. Also, we think that we got enough footage... We sat down for some discussion and we realise we are having a very big problem. We don't really know what we are doing and what we want. what is our focal point. And just with the footage behind the scene, i do not know how to link it by including our own work and our opening and ending. We realised that we got a lot of ideas but we do not know how to combine them together. We were very lost and do not know what to do. Then Jen came up with a very good idea. it is simple yet with great combination of animation and video. HOHOHO! so we scraped the previous idea and finalised with this new idea. Yup so we got the brief idea of what is going to happen in the video and we are going to do our storyboard tomorrow. So let wait and see... BYEBYE!!!

we had filming today. We followed the year 2 around in places like the TV studio and the ram area. Some of my group mates acted as the extra in the video. Haha... Today's footage is better than yesterdays and its more interesting than yesterday. We used up one whole tape. and we had to buy another one from the TP bookshop which cost $7 plus. So expensive!!!!!!! but when we're about to wrap up at 3, Alfie came and gave us 2 empty 60min tapes. just a few minutes after we bought the tape!!!! can we refund or claim money??? it's been more productive today. I guess we have enough footage. There's still filming tomorrow... hopefully the footage will be useful to us if not we will be wasting our time like for 2 days. ya so... bye bye!

Today after the trip to National Museum, I went to meet Kala, Gina and Jen at Bras Basah for the filming. And so we missed the afternoon class. So we started filming the scene and then what they are doing behind the scene. Like how the scene was setup, how the director and the other members direct everything and the interaction between the members and the actor. I can see that it is not easy to do. just a simple scene can take up up to 2 hrs to film. every action, expression and movement and the shot size are important. After a while, we began to feel tired and restless. We sat at the staircase and started dozing off. Tomorrow we will continue filming in TP and hope that it will be more interesting and fun.

Hello... Today we went to class. Alfie talked again about our project for a pretty long time. Seens like our objective is going to change or not. It's still not really confirm yet. And so we finally had some more time discuss. we are going to start our video shooting tomorrow... All thanks to our yr 2 senior for allowing us to film them while they are filming. But we couldn't really plan our schedule in detail because the schedule was not ready yet. So by tonight we are able to get the schedule and start our filming tomorrow. hopefully it will be fun.

I'm late for class again. Today is presentation day. So by the time I reached the class, the first group almost finished their presentation. Sorry! So the rest of the group presented their work to the class. Then my group started presenting. Seriously i don't know what to say. So I just said out everything in my mind and pass on to my next team mate. So and there we end the presentation and class.

After the class, my group mate stayed back in class for awhile and discuss again. So we have finalised our script. We named our group The Stickman Production. Haha... So below is the brief idea of what we are doing.

The Stickman Production

Opening
-Stickman pulls out ‘The Stickman Production’, then he run and jumps into be ‘I’ Squashing the initial ‘I’ and then head pops out to look.
-Stickman takes lots of photos, each & everyone of us, then hangs up in a line and choose the best photo to work on.
-Photography: Stickman takes photo of one of the group member (Polaroid). *keeps dropping the photo.*
-Drawing Essential: Stickman sketch out the photo.
-2D Art: Stickman does a painting of the sketch.
-3D Art: The painting becomes 3D
-Claymation (Backup): Stickman uses clay to build out the painting.
-Storytelling: Draws out a computer with keyboard, Stickman jumps onto the keyboard and start typing by jumping on the button. Types out our video title.
-Then from animation zooms into the screen, then zooms out from video to MAC laptop.

So we will probably start filming next week after we get the schedule from our senior. So it will be a busy week for us.

My group member and I did discussion about our opening and ending as well as our content. so we came up with a few ideas for our content. After consulting Aflie, we somehow had finalise what we want to do for our content. HURRAY!!!! It will be a combination of animation and video. But there will be a lot of work to do for our animation. I guess we will be doing a simple animation. It will be a stick man. ha ha. So tomorrow will be our presentation. So I'm in charge of the content. Yup so that's all for today!

Today we had class for MOI P1. So Alfie briefed us about the P1 like what should be inside the video etc. There are many things we must take note of and check again and again to make sure that things are in place.

Things that we must include in the video are:
1) Interviews
2)Interviewees
3)Visual Overlay
4)Opening Intro
5)Closing

So after the things above, that leads to the style. There are many things related to the style we want for our video.
Like:
1) Theme
2)Look
3)Graphics
4)Text (fonts)
5)Audio
6)Script

There are many ways to start making a video. For some people, they prefer to start with writing their script/content first before they decide on their theme, graphic etcs. As for Alfie style, he prefer to start with deciding the theme for the video. We were told to start with the theme first. However if we prefer the other way, we can start by writing the script first.

As for my group, we followed Alfies way by deciding the theme first. Our theme for this project is fun and exciting. (I guess so) We decided to change our style instead of the Harry Potter style. We have already finalised on the opening and ending. So now we are left with the content. We had many different views about how we should combine all our ideas together and make the video flow smoothly. And so we decided to do research on different docuementary and making of movies to give us some ideas.

So on monday we have to be ready with out information so that we can be prepared for the presentation next tuesday.

Today we had our class at the lecture hall. The lecturers gave us watched many different opening, ending and styles of videos. It showed us what kind of style and content we should not do for our video.

There were many types of video we can do. Like a mixture of animation with real life action. That seems very interesting but alot of hard work must be done. Opening like Monster Inc. , Shoot them up, Iron Man etc. The opening that attracts me the most was Hostage. It was very cool, done using animation and interesting layout. Just with the names and buildings can make an opening this exciting is not easy. Maybe my group can try this out. =)

One of the video we watched about searching the mountain climber reminds me of the movie Cloverfield. It's something like a tourist video. The camera was shaky and making me feel dizzy. That is a really NO NO for our video.

Some of the videos I watched really makes me feel sleepy. The content was boring and there were nothing that interested me.

After watching all the video, I know what I should do for our video. It gave us some ideas on how we can do for our opening and ending. One of our lecturer said, 'a good opening, lousy content and ending will not make a video look good.' So our work must be consistant and of cause good.

So I hope that my group can maintain the quality of the work throughout the whole process.

Day 02- Brainstorming


Today my group member and I were were discussing about our concept for our final project. We had a few ideas in our mind. We gave our comments on each ideas. After some discussion, we finalised on our idea. We consulted Alfie about our idea. However, he thinks that our content is not good enough and do not show the objectives of the whole assignment. He explained to us what we are suppose to include in the video. Like how we can apply the stuff we learned in other modules.

He also said that we should reflect on the three points:
1) What is the product
2)Product to do
3) Who is it doing for

As we have a long period of time to finish our work, we should keep reflecting on the three question if we have gone out of track. Alfie also gave ask some ideas on how to improve on our content. Like why should the students choose TP instead of NYP. What can TP offer to them that is not available in NYP? The most important how to get the attention from the students instead of them just watching the video and forget about it the next minute.

It is not easy to show it visually. We have to make it interesting and make the students feel excited about studying in TP, MOI.

Tomorrow, the lecturers will be showing us some bad and good videos. Like how come they can work, what are the factors that made the videos successful. Why the videos failed and how she should avoid making the same mistakes again.

I hope that after viewing the videos, my group members and I will be inspired and be able to produce a better content.

Day 01

This afternoon we had a briefing on MOI Project 1. A little bit nervous before entering the lecture hall as I had no idea what I am suppose to do for Project 1. It seems like a very very important modules and also difficult. The module name MOI Project 1 has already made me feel uneasy.

We were told on what to do and the submittion requirement. We had a total of 30 days to do our project 1. We are to form into groups of 4-5 and then work as a team.

Our theme for the project 1 is a short video that will attract graduating students from secondary schools, parents and finally our lecturers who are marking our works.

We had to do a daily diary entry as part of our submittion requirement. This really surprised me as I never kept a diary long. The most was just a week entries. Now keeping 30 days or even more entries really is a very big task to me. I hope I can maintain the habit of doing daily entry for just 30 days.

Well, I hope that everything will go on smoothly throughout the whole production.
